Acer Aspire S5 Ultrabook | 13.3-Inch, World’s Thinnest
At CES 2012 Acer have just unveiled what they are claiming to be the world’s thinnest Ultrabook. The Acer Aspire S5 ultrabook has a 13.3-inch LCD and is ultra slim at just 15mm at the widest point!
The 13.3-inch ultrabook weighs less than 3 lbs (1.35kg), and looks amazingly thin and stylish from the provided press photos. Acer seem to be excited about their over “Acer Green” Instant On technology which provides a super fast boot and resume times (1.5 seconds). There is also an “Acer Always Connect” feature which enables you to control your multimedia collection and other data on all your devices at “anytime, anywhere”.
Jim Wong, president of Acer Inc has faith in their Ultrabooks and said “The Ultrabook is much more than just a product segment, it’s a new trend that will become the mainstream for mobile PCs, and customers will see the unique features gradually extended across Acer’s notebook family.”

The ultra-slim Acer S5 ultrabook has a Onyx Black magnesium-aluminum alloy cover which looks amazing and is also tough. The Aspire Aspire S5 is the first Acer Ultrabook to feature the “MagicFlip I/O port” panel, which is neatly concealed below the hinge. This hides away the ports and leaves the S5 looking smooth and flush. Simply press the MagicFlip key to open the panel, to gain access to HDMI, USB 3.0, and a 20 Gbps Thunderbolt port.
As expected the Acer S5 features a SSD drive for speed and enhanced shock protection. It also features Dolby Home Theater v4, and a “long battery” life from the PowerSmart battery pack, which is said to have a 3x longer battery cycle life.
